In your case, I would recommend, considering that you have already set up a Bigpond email, to go to the Settings App, tap on Passwords and Accounts, and select the Bigpond Account that you have on the iPhone. If you are using Bigpond’s email services, confirm that the incoming server is set up to imap.telstra.com with smtp.telstra.com as the outgoing server. For secure communication, the IMAP port should be 993 with SSL enabled, and for the SMTP port, 465 or 587 with SSL enabled. Ensure that, both in incoming and outgoing settings, the email ID and its password are typed correctly.
In case the problem is not resolved, the other way would be to switch off and restart the iPhone, or remove the Bigpond email account from the Mail app and re-enter the details again, which may be effective. In this way, the connection has to be refreshed, and in most cases, most problems should be resolved. In case the trouble persists, Telstra’s support would be able to be contacted regarding any further troubleshooting.
