The 2017 Smithsonian Barber 1877 Half-Union 1 oz Proof Silver Medal was minted using a pattern intended for a proposed U.S. coin known as the Half-Union. This medal recreates the original design and features a beautiful proof finish. Its production was authorized by the Smithsonian, and it was released at the 2017 Denver ANA Show. A mintage limit of only 2,500 pieces was imposed. The designs on this medal were created by William Barber. Liberty is depicted on the obverse. The intended date of 1877 can be seen here along with 13 stars.
